Brief description
The Chronic Diseases Research Center (CEDOC) lies at the heart of the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCM-UNL) bringing together biomedical, translational and clinical research under a collaborative spirit. In 2011 the CEDOC joined the Laboratório Associado de Oeiras together with Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, Instituto de Técnologia Química e Biológica, and Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica. CEDOC hosts over 30 groups and nearly 200 Academics and Clinicians researchers devoted to understanding a variety of chronic pathologies, from diabetes to rare auto-immune diseases. The multidisciplinary environment focused in translational research stimulates an attractive and creative environment for students. CEDOC will soon open a state-of-the-art research building in the center of Lisbon just next to the school of medicine. The new space will open opportunities not only to expand the research programmes, but also to host community services and a number of biotech companies. CEDOC researchers also benefit from an excellent infrastructure, maintained in common, that supports their research and teaching activities. These include animal facilities, bioimaging, cell culture facilities, teaching rooms and labs with specific equipment, and a Library specialized in Biomedicine. Services in the area of cellular and molecular biology are also operating at FCM, serving both CEDOC researchers and the researcher community in general.
