Brief description

The Portuguese Oncology Institute-Porto (IPO-Porto) is the largest specialized Portuguese cancer institution with a triple role: patient care, research and teaching in Oncology (http://www.ipoporto.min-saude.pt/). It includes the Centro de Investigação do IPO-Porto (CI-IPOP), which was formally recognized by the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) as an R&D unit in 2004 and has been classified as Very Good after international evaluation. The general and long-term objective of CI-IPOP is the understanding of the pathobiologic mechanisms behind carcinogenesis, which ultimately will help improve cancer prevention and/or treatment. We focus on genitourinary neoplasias, especially on prostate cancer, but also study other tumor models that might give input on pathobiologic mechanisms of disease (http://sites.google.com/site/ipoportoresearchcenter/).
