Brief description

Priberam is a Portuguese SME founded in 1989, as a spin-off from Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon, which offers natural language processing and machine learning technologies. Priberam exports its technologies to companies like Amazon, Kobo, Microsoft and media groups in Brazil and Spain. In 2018 a solution of information extraction developed by Priberam went live in Centro Hospitalar de São João, in Oporto and has, since then, processed millions of electronic health records.Priberam participated in several national and European R&D projects and keeps strong links with the best groups in the academia and research institutes. It is a CMU-Portugal Industrial and Institutional Affiliate participating in the long term collaboration program between Carnegie Mellon University and the Portuguese Government, and is part of the COTEC Innovative SMEs Network, a network of companies based in Portugal but operating internationally and in alliances through a culture of growth, results and good practices.Priberam research department (Priberam Labs, http://labs.priberam.com) is focused on innovative technologies such as automatic media monitoring, recommendation, and social media analysis, with a strong component on machine learning research for Big Data. Priberam Labs organizes and sponsors several research activities, such as the Priberam Machine Learning Lunch Seminars (since 2009) and the Lisbon Machine Learning School (since 2011), a summer school held every year in Lisbon, which counts with nearly 200 participants from all over the world.
