Short abstract and comments
The emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum, the causative agent of the most lethal form of human malaria, is still the major obstacle in the control of the disease. The central hypothesis of the project is that combining two chemotypes - each one targeting a specific stage of the parasite’s life cycle - in a single chemical entity, can lead to effective antimalarials capable of killing both the blood- and liver-stage parasites in order to obtain new tools for eradication campaigns of malaria.
Potential uses/indications
Chemical tools to study the biology of malaria infection; Dual acting antimalarial agents; multi-stage antimalarial agents.
