Short abstract and comments

This system provides augmented feedback of hand grip force, through a device in the shape of an everyday object (in the current implementation, a rigid plastic cup) associated with virtual environments. The system can be used in rehabilitation activities to cover both occupational therapy and training on the use of myoelectric prosthesis. The device allows the evaluation and training of grip force control. The device also allows practicing hand exercises in fine manipulation movements. It is capable of measuring force in a range of 0 ÷ 50N, with high resolution. It also provides data from an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) with an accelerometer and a gyroscope to track position and orientation. The developed virtual environments uses the Unity game engine to conduct therapy exercises enhanced by augmented visual and sound feedback in a serious games configuration. The system can be shaped in different daily objects commonly used in hand rehabilitation. Provisional Patent Application (National) – System for hand rehabilitation in dexterous manipulation of daily objects, INPI nº 109167-N Application date 17-02-2016
